In Friday’s International CSI1* 140 cm class presented by Pohjola, Jone Illi rode his horse Starlight to victory.
In the two-phase class, Jone rode a smooth course, and a tight turn after the third-to-last jump gave her a solid lead in the second phase with a time of 33.45. In the end, he secured the victory by a margin of more than three seconds over Marina Ehnrooth, who finished second on her horse Qualime; Ehnrooth also successfully navigated that same tight turn, ultimately clocking a time of 37.07 in the second phase.
In the Finnish Success class, Anni Hjerppe on D.Chacco’s Dominator Z rounded out the top four. Hungary’s Anna Simicska took third place on her horse Carundy. Norway’s Karoline Lien placed fifth on her horse Call Blue.
In the 20-rider class, there was a comprehensive Finnish contingent consisting of 11 riders.
Right after class, Jone said that Stralight felt really good and that it feels great to win, especially since they didn’t make it yesterday.
Regarding the sharp turn that caused a stir among the audience, he noted that it had been planned and went off very well.
“The horse is in top form and the arena is wonderful,” Jone says.
Friday morning’s International CSI1* 130 cm class, presented by Ticketmaster, also featured a strong Finnish contingent in a highly competitive field of 22 riders. The class was ridden against the clock, and speed and accuracy played a decisive role.
The victory went to Portugal’s Jose Pedro Bernardes on Maliburetto with a flawless ride in 52.42 seconds. However, there were plenty of reasons for the Finnish audience to celebrate, as no fewer than two local riders made it onto the podium. Isabel Olsson and Genereux Fortuna put in a strong and smooth round in 53.89, which earned them second place. Vilma Lappalainen rode Knokke HX to third place with a time of 54.69.
Susanna Granroth, who finished fourth on her horse KG Corleoni, continued the Finns’ success.
The class demonstrated the broad and consistent level of skill among Finnish riders at the 130 cm height.
