Jone Illi put on an impressive performance right from the first round, posting a fast, clean run in the 1
*140 class. He started last in the runoff and narrowly edged out Hungary’s Anna Simicska with a time of 34.23 seconds. Simicska was the only other rider to post a double clear round in the class, with a time of 35.73. Third place went to Belgian rider Mike van Olst and Quintana van’t Klavertje Vier.
“It feels really good—I can’t help but be happy with the horse. I think these were Starlight’s first two international wins, so it was a perfect weekend. I also saw Anna’s jump-off round and knew I’d have to ride a little against the clock, but without taking any silly risks,” Jone reflected after the awards ceremony.
