It is a pleasure to welcome to Helsinki one of the big names in show jumping, the Swede Peder Fredricson. His older brother, Jens, will also compete in Jäähalli in October. In his career, Peder has won Olympic and World Cup team gold, the European Championship, Olympic silver, and most recently bronze in the World Cup final in Riyadh last spring.
Peder has remained high on the Longines Rankings for years. He is one of the respected and most successful horsemen of our sport. Peder, who started his career as a eventing rider, states that he only rose to the top in show jumping at a later age. He did draw attention when he changed from eventing to jumping. In his first jumping championship, at the Athens Olympics, Peder won team silver and was fourth in the individual competition on Magic Bengtsson.
There are three Olympic riders in Fredricson’s family, as Peder’s wife Lisen has also competed in the Swedish Olympic team. In addition, the brothers’ father and grandfather have been horsemen through and through. Father Ingvar is a professor of veterinary medicine. The whole family constantly strives to research and develop the well-being of their horses.
Peder Fredricson will compete at the Helsinki Icehall daily from Friday 25.10. until Sunday 27.10. The main class of the show, the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup, is on Sunday at 2 PM.
