Christopher Wegelius Memorial Trophy

One of Finland’s most successful show jumpers, and the most recent Finnish Olympic equestrian, Christopher Wegelius, passed away just before Christmas 2025. To honor Wegelius’s memory and his long career in equestrian sport, Helsinki Horse Show will award the annual memorial prize, the “Christopher Wegelius Memorial Trophy.” The trophy has been donated by the Wegelius family.

The perpetual trophy will be presented for the first time at the upcoming Helsinki Horse Show in connection with the Helsinki Grand Prix on Saturday evening, February 28. The Grand Prix will be contested at a height of 155 cm, with €110,000 in prize money and Longines Ranking points at stake. Wegelius himself was named the best Finnish rider at the Helsinki Horse Show in 1987 and 1988 with his horse Ginger.

The award will be presented by Wegelius’s immediate family to the highest-placed Finnish rider in the Grand Prix. It is a perpetual memorial trophy and a lasting tribute to Christopher Wegelius.
